I was not a good student in high school and finished in the bottom 50 percent of my class. Like you, I was depressed after years of snobby students and haughty teachers made me think I would never be useful in life. I was better at college and now do very well in the business world.
I'll let you in on a little secret that you won't learn in school: Half of all success the real world is showing up for work on time. For the other half, you have to do your job. If you do those things, you will be successful. It might take a little while but you will get there.
Keep reading and think ambitiously. If you think you can do something, work at doing it. I always wanted to be a writer and one day I applied for a job as a magazine editor. Believe it or not, I got the job without having any professional writing or editorial experience. However, I worked at it and now have been published in many magazines in multiple languages. And the funny thing is that I never took English in college!
You have to want it and work for it to get it. Figure out what you want and start working for it.

It is not that difficult to be successful without an academic background. People are brainwashed into believing that you must have a strong education to find success. Not necessarily true. If you were to choose a profession such as medicine or law, then yes, you need academics, but if you choose to work differently, you can get the education you need right on the job. I have a home business that you do not need an education to run, all you need is a vision of what type of income you would like to earn. The sky is the limit, you only have to dedicate yourself and be very determined. When people join my company, the first thing I do is ask them what they would like to earn. Then I teach them either over the phone or the internet until they have reached their goals. It is not unusual to earn $10k or even $20k/mo doing this. I know of many who earn a lot more than that. There is no need for bookkeeping, as the company does all of that for you....in fact they offer step-by-step training every step of the way. So don't give up or feel depressed. This is a level playing field where everyone starts out in the same spot and then works their way up with the help of others. Anyone can do this, just have a dream and I will help you see it through!

The American Dream is NOT always best achieved by a prestigious educational background.
How many stories can you think of that exemplify the little guy striking it rich? Self made millionaires? People who go from being penniless to success?
You need to figure out what you are good at, set a goal, and work like a dog to achieve it.
If half the game is luck, you just have to make sure that you are always trying to be successful, so that when you're lucky moment arrives you'll be able to grab it. You sound like you're already giving up, and accepting your fate. You need to change your attitude. Decide what you want from your life, and go get it. Don't assume that the hurdles you face are any more difficult than those that others face. Don't assume that because something is hard to do, that you aren't good at it. Don't assume that the successful people you know didn't struggle to get there.
Assume that you WILL have everything you work for.
One other thing, money doesn't automatically mean success.
Good luck

You need to redefine success. Just because someone is a doctor or was fortunate enough to have wealthy parents and went to any Ivy League Univ. doesn't mean they are successful.
I am succesful and I worked hard in my job, got an education at a decent school and used my brain. I am a home owner, have traveled, have a couple of careers I built and enjoy but don't make a lot of money yet I am very comfortable.
Do what you love and do it well, that's success. God gave us all gifts to use, figure out your gifts and use them, that is where success and happiness is.

you really have to figure out a way to get some college - or at least a trade school. Your options without college are alot more limited as you say.
The one field you can make good money is in sales, but often to get the initial position you need a degree of some kind to get you in the door.

Yes, the road is narrow. But then again it's not what you know it's who you know. I have personally witnessed this. If you don't have and can't obtain a good education it helps to learn how to suck up instead.
