How long is the essay?

When I read essays, it usually takes at least an hour of solid work. First I read through it quickly, skimming, to get the general idea of the work done. Then, I read through it again, carefully, making notes as I go. Then, I read through it a third time to double-check everything. If it was a research essay, I then have to check not only the format of the works cited or bibliography page, but also the sources themselves to see if there was any plagiarism. Once again, this is in addition to doing things like eating, showering, getting dressed and living my own life. If there was a class of essays all turned in at the same time, expect the grades no sooner than a week later! If there were many classes all turned in at the same time, it will take even longer.

There's no defined time!

It depends on how good the essay is.
How long it is.
How fast your tutor reads.
Whether or not your writing puts your tutor to sleep.
How much other work your tutor has to do first. I am assuming your tutor is allowed to have a life in addition to working on your papers.

There are too many factors for there to be a global answer. I recommend you ask your tutor how long he/she thinks it will take.

It does depend on how much needs to be corrected, but it shouldn't take much longer than 30 minutes to proof the type of essay you described.
