I have never been sexually active and am not currently, so possibility of pregnancy aside, what are reasons for missed periods? I have rarely been regular, I tend to go months at a time without having one. Is this a sign that I may not be able to have children later?

That's happened to me before. Then I started taking birth control and it regulated my period. You don't have to be sexually active to take birth control.....it really does regulate your period also.

Period are most often irregular at the beginning of the menstrual cycle (menarche - when menstruation begins) and also towards the end of menstruation (menopause).

Some doctors believe this to be as if the menstrual cycle was "warming up" and then "winding down".

Some women are always irregular. This is quite possibly to do with fluctuations in their hormone levels and some doctors would recommend that they try going onto a hormonal therapy (most commonly the oral contraceptive pill) to even things out.

In most cases this sort of phenomenon does not mean you cannot have children. In fact, this sort of thing makes some women more prone to falling pregnant as they are unsure where they are in their cycle. They sometimes get lax about contraception thinking that they have not ovulated and WHAMMO - they are pregnant! :)

However, if you are not ovulating, then you are not likely to get pregnant!

NO... Not at all... Most of my girlfriends have always had irregular periods all their lifes.... & out of all my friends. Only one has not had any kids, but that was by choice. Go to your doctor tho, there are birth controls that can make your period regular. Even if you are not sexually active. Be thankful its not regular tho... I get mine ever 32 days like clockwork... Id give anything NOT to have mine for a few months!

Your eating habits play a large part too, if you diet constantly and are under or over weight that can affect your cycle. Also stress is a major factor if you stress out about it it will cause you to be "late". Just relax.

How old are you? If you are still young you aren't regular yet which can take 2 years. If you are older i would go to a doctor. you can have an imbalance of hormones.

Sounds pretty normal. If you have low body fat that can play into it as well. If you want to be regular just get on birth control pill. It will also help your skin and make your boobs bigger....did for me anyway.
