My family and I used to live in Anacortes but moved to Arizona, well we recenty have decided to move back and would love to live in Anacortes. Talked to some family and they all said that Anacortes is having a real problem with Meth.... I find that hard to believe (such a quiet and tourist town). Our son was born in Anacortes as well as my hubby, would love to raise our son there... Is there really a drug problem there?????

Meth is a problem everywhere these days, not just in Anacortes. Unfortunate, but true.

Skagit county in general has problems with meth, but no more than other rural counties. There are a lot of protective factors for kids in Anacortes too. How you raise kids, the activities and time you spend with them and the friendships that you monitor are all much larger factors in protecting your kids from addictions than the availability of a specfic drug. Most (but not all) families with addiction issues are multigenerational.

meth has become a problem everywhere, especially in out lying areas of low population. i lived in tacoma for 16 years, meth is a problem that just keeps gettin bigger every year. i was born in east tx & grew up in a small town where everybody knows you, now they have a meth problem here as well.

as far as where to raise your children, its not where you raise them but how you raise them... they'll do good anywhere as long as they know whats morally right & wrong for them.

its sad our countries gone to this but, the best we can do is educate our children & hope they do whats best for them.

im finding that its a bigger problem in the more secluded areas, as meth tends to smell when cooking. your probably ok in the cities, it'd be the rural areas where you'll run into it more.
