This is an essay question on a scholarship I am applying for, and I was just curious what other's opinions are.

No they shouldn't be. This actually is one of the reasons people are against illegals. The tax payers are paying for the illegals healthcare, and there has been an abundance of 'non-sense' visits to Emergency Rooms (for kids with a cough, and other minor issues) that are costing tax payers millions AND more importantly, pushing the people who actually need help to the back of the line. Hell, if someone is paying for my healthcare, why not go the most expensive route.
They're taking advantage of the system already, and this needs to stop.

How about NO!

Why should they get free health care when there are so many legal citizens without health care? I am in no way shape or form for giving out free health care but come on. If we were going to do it I don't think that illegals should be the ones to get it. I am for helping people (welfare) that are willing to help themselves and who aren't breaking the law because everyone needs a little help sometimes.

Come on now. How could giving free health care to illegals be good for our economy? It wouldn't be.

No way! That would be unfair to those who are here lawfully.

P.S.
Illegal immigrants who have roots in our country and want to stay should also have to pay a meaningful penalty for breaking the law to pay their taxes, to learn English and to work in a job for a number of years. People who meet these conditions should be able to apply for citizenship but approval would not be automatic, and they will have to wait in line behind those who played by the rules and followed the law.

No, that's totally and completely outrageous. Why would we ever offer someone who lives here ILLEGALLY health care, when there are millions who live her leaglly without it? More of a reason for people to come across the border and drive our wages down. This country is headed to shitter! Bush needs to make good on his promise of securing our borders or, I guess, that was just another falsehood?

I hate to sound hard-hearted, but I say no. I'm a citizen, and *I* don't get free health care.

Um- A very wise man I know talked about how charity begins at home.

I don't mind immigration as long as they come here legally. If they come here illegally, I think they are abusing the system. But that is my opinion.

NO! I have to pay for it so should they! I think they should be given free vaccinations and stuff like that, but not free healthcare. Why do we need to make it easier for them? I will never understand.

I don't believe they should. If it's an immediate health issue - then yes, treat it and then they need to be sent back to there own country, where if they want to they can seek the medical attention needed. If their country doesn't have it available to them, they should make efforts to change their government and president.

I don't think so. Why should they get free heathcare for doing something illegal? Of course, I guess the same could be argued for prisoners.

No. Legal ones should. Otherwise, if you can get benefits by entering illegally, what's the motivation to enter the country legally?
