Get some good quality skin moisturizer.. there are plenty of them and apply that often. Do not get the regular run-of-the-mill stuff as it is no good.

Geneally speaking, As we grow older, our skin changes. It begins to lose its capacity to retain moisture. This loss of moisture retention capacity is intensified by climatic conditions - sun, wind, and low humidity. As a consequence, our skin becomes drier, more wrinkled, and spots and growths may appear. Aside from being somewhat unsightly, dry skin can be itchy and, if the skin becomes extremely dry, can become painful. This is probably not so in YOUR case because you said it runs in the family.

The remedy is to treat the skin with substances that enhance its moisture-retention capabilities. In early adulthood, our skin cells begin to become more porous and less elastic. When a moisturizer is applied, it hydrates the cells, but the cells quickly lose the moisture. If substances that work synergistically together to restore the skin cells' elasticity are applied to the skin, then as the healing progresses, the cells continue to admit moisture as before, but after the healing are better able to keep it from escaping.

Have you ever heard of a product called Karite Gold(It is a shea butter product for the dry skin? It is good or something like that.. but to reiterate.. NOT the general run of skin moisturizers

Look for a product called a Severe dry skin softener. It is like lotion but way more moisturizing. You should be able to find skin softeners in the drug store or even online. Also you can try lathering your body with baby oil everytime you get out of the shower, make sure your skin is still damp, this will help lock in moisture. Try this for a few days and your skin will slowly be renewed. But, the best bet is to get the skin softener for severe dry skin. And try a moisturizing scrub for your feet. You may need to exfoliate regularly. to get rid of all the old dry scales.

Wash with a superfatted soap. Soaps in general strip oil from your skin, so look for less irritating products. Look for soaps that contain emollients--such as Dove and Oil of Olay.

Replace lost oils. At first, dunking your parched hands in water soothes the itching and discomfort. But repeated exposure only exacerbates dry skin, say women doctors.

Water is the biggest culprit to hands, especially in combination with soaps and detergents. Moisturize your hands immediately after washing them, to seal in the water that the skin has absorbed, helping prevent drying and chapping.

Look for hand lotions and creams that contain mineral oil or glycerin. Others recommend mild lotions such as Cetaphil, Moisturel, Aveeno, Eucerin or Purpose.

Wear protective gloves. Hairdressers, who come in constant contact with chemicals, experience dry hands more than anyone else.

For everyone else household cleaning products are a problem. Bathroom cleaner, ammonia and bleach tend to be especially drying to the hands.

To protect your hands wear rubber gloves with cotton liners. The liners keep your hands from sweating. Otherwise, the sweat, just like water, dries out your skin.

Either your not using any good lotion or your not helping it maintain the moist. It can actually be both, if you think about it. You need to do the following steps MRP. Maintaince, you need to clean your skin exfoliate any dry cells. Repair, after your skin is clean you need to keep the moist in. Giving it a great repair to your new incoming skin. After, you will need to prevent any further damages and bad skin reveling the surface. Keep all the baby skin out and the dry skin away. Check out my webpage and you will see your self.

Use a moisturising body wash in the shower instead of soap and I found this oil of olay shower lotion that you put on and rinse off, it works great. Also at bath and body works there is a sugar scrub, it is basically sugar in oil, I love it. Also use an exfoliating wash cloth or loofa.

Hi

Well I would recommend seeing your Doctor as it is difficult to know what you have it maybe eczema (which I suffer from and so does my son). For this you may need steroidal creams which you would get from your Doctor. There are other things that you can try if it is eczema such as tea tree oil and aloe vera but you really need to get a diagnosis and then you can check what is available.

Also check this if it is eczema www.eczema.org
