What's with the referenced to kool-aid? Is it a Jim Jones reference? What does it mean?

Yes, it's a reference to Jim Jones. Someone who has drunk the kool-aid is a true believer and follower of one political faction, thinking that everything they say is right and never questioning any statement made by their political leader.

Someone who says that we never saw the break in the levies coming in New Orleans has "drunk the White House kool-aid" and is just repeating White House sound bites even though there is video tape of Bush being told the levies would break.

I'm guessing you mean "bite" the bullet. Yes, it's a Jim Jones reference. It's like, "I didn't drink the Kool-Aid," meaning, I didn't blindly follow the cult, the party line, etc.

Jim Jones murdered his followers by putting poison in a kool-aid like substance. It wasn't Kool-Aid, but everyone refers to it as Kool-Aid because it was that kind of drink.
