Hi

I use trig for everything from positioning things to finding the distance to objects, planing my trips on vacation; to navigating a boat. People use it for civil engineering projects like building a tunnels, sky scrappers, to scaling buildings on a model train set. our modern cities are built by using trig. Art uses trig for positioning the drawing in their places and to get the action right. All skilled trade such as Die setting and Die Repair and Design have to use trig in order to line there punches up to make the required parts so they line up in the product { for example a bumper to fit on a car or truck. to check it; a Fixure is made to hold it ; while the hole are check position and alinement and it was design by using what? you guess it :Trig So trig is used for everything.

I use trig in everyday life when I play the piano. Trigonometry allows us to model wavelengths. A piano gives off sound by creating different wavelengths and frequencies of notes. One can use trig to model the resonance of two keyes that are very close to each other. An electronic keyboard is ideal for witnessing this simple phenomena.

It's true, but it's also a total b.s answer. Enjoy.

The first three answerers are right, you have to be in a career that would require considerable calculations. But I think what you want is an example. Here it is, for example you would want to know the height of a very tall building, if you know your trigo, you wouldn't need a very long measuring tape and climb the building. What you would need is just a calculator and a protactor, Just get the distance from where u are to the bottom of the building and the angle nto the top of that building and use ur sines and cosines..

I use it just about every day as an orbital analyst. I compare satellite orbits and the predicted location of different satellites to determine when two satellites using the same radio frequencies will be nearly in a straight line relative to a tracking station. If two radio transmitters using the same frequencies are to close being lined up with each other, their signals will interfere with each other and the tracking station won't be able to receive either signal.

Edit: The more responses I read, the more I like this question.

In electricity, you use sine and cosine waves to tell amplitude and phase. I use sines and cosines to figure out right triangles when I'm trying to figure out how much wood/etc I need if I want to make something that's square or right triangles. There's a billion ways, but I have to say that I don't use it every day of my life. Perhaps once a week or so.

Unfortunately, most people probably don't even know what Trig entails. Many who do are,I expect, are unaware of practical applications... Sadly, most individuals can hardly utilize Algebra.

I use it, on occasion, for understanding/calculating vector forces (more Physics) with playing pool or charting nautical courses...

I use right triangle trig all the time during home repairs/improvements... amateur drafting.

I am a scientist, and I use trigonometric formulae everyday to compute UV light absorbances of various molecules, with increasing concentrations. Eventually, as the detector becomes overloaded, the absorbance approaches an asymptote, and the formulae allow me to predict where that cutoff will be.

All of the time, actually. When I'md doing DIY work, mostly. When I'm helping my kids with their homework. My father does carpentry work and he's always calling me about how to figure out one thing or another. I LOVE math, trig especially.

I use it every day. I'm a land surveyor. I didn't thing I would need it when I was in high school, but now I make $65,000 a year just by what I know.
