I am preparing a time plan in excel. So what I want to do is to highlight (in one colour) a process that is going to be done in 4 weeks with one colour but with an increasing tone (darkness) in the 4 week period. Anyone with an idea of how I do that?

Unfortunately the cell can only be filled with a solid color if you use Format-Cells-Patterns and then choose a color. If you are looking for a gradient that increases tone, I would suggest the following:

1. Drawing a text box around the cells you want to color
2. Right click the border of the Text Box and choose Format Text Box
3. On the colors and lines tab click the Color dropdown list and choose fill effects.
4. For colors I would choose two colors, the first color being the light color (i.e. light turquoise) and the second color being a darker shade of the same color (i.e. turquoise)
5. Under shading styles choose Vertical
6. Click the Variant in the upper left-hand box
7. Click OK to close the fill color menu, click OK to close the Format Text Box menu
8. Type your text in the Text Box

Hope this answer works for you!!!

you would be waiting to get Excel to try this. here is what i can inform you: looking a formula to calculate the version between to dates may be the confusing section. regardless of the shown fact that, assuming that works, that Excel formula will return an integer in the cellular which you entered the formula in. Then, you will possibly paintings with Conditional Formatting to specify what values will set off cells to be without delay packed with a coloration you specify. i be attentive to that the Conditional Formatting characteristic is provided in 2007 yet earlier variations i'm not sure approximately.

Change the background color of the cell(s). You do it either by using that button that has a little paint can dumping out paint or right click on a cell & go to 'format cells' & change the background color there.

Choose the area/row/column you want to highlight

choose 'format' and then 'conditional formatting'
you can select (for example):
If 'cell value' is 'between' (date) and (date) then (colour)
If 'cell value' is 'between' (date) and (date) then (next colour)
If 'cell value' is 'greater than' (date) then (another colour)
