Christians, here is a chance to show your ability to be compassionate to the least of these.
Let's say abortion is now overturned and a woman can no longer obtain an abortion.
It's a definite fact that most women do NOT give up their children after carrying the child for 9 months. And it's likely that most of these women will decide to raise their children.
With that in mind, what would Jesus say to do to help these women and children?

Chloe, I know I'm not THAT righteous. But I also know that to live my life as a Christian means to live the way that Christ taught me, which means to follow his example.
Now, knowing that I realize I'm a sinner and very unrighteous, (but I do believe in God's grace) how is a Christian supposed to help these women and children?
Would you please click on additional details and offer your suggestions instead of just judging me?

People, no one is addressing the key question here. How will we assist those women and children?

I think we need to change the culture. It can be done. Again, slavery and dueling were once accepted parts of American culture. They are not any longer.
I would be willing to give time and money to help these children. I would search myself to see what else I could do. Maybe big brother, or adopt. I am already active in church programs.
As I mentioned on the other thread, I think abortion is morally wrong, but I think there are real limits on what can and should be done legally to limit it. People need to change their attitudes - their hearts -about sex, responsibility, children and family. How on Earth did the idea of an absentee, non-supportive father become acceptable in this society? I don't want women back in the kitchen, running a house 24 hours a day, and I don't want to shame the children of unmarried parents. But we have to re-connect with the idea that sex comes with responsibilities, and fathering children you can't take care of is cowardly, selfish and unmanly. Not just child support laws, but ATTITUDES! Men like this should be ashamed to show their face in public until they do right. Think of the kids instead of yourself, I would say.
You seem like you are struggling with these issues like me. It's not as simple as shouting "keep your legs closed" or "get the government out of my business." I enjoyed reading your profile. God bless.

Your question is a little faulty. Are you really going to be able to discern between woman who have kids only because abortion is illegal and those who have kids for other reasons (marital status not withstanding)? What do you mean, "what would Jesus say.."?
He'd say what he always has said. He'd say "Love one another as you love Me." Jesus isn't tossing anyone out on their butt because they have an abortion.
The opinion that abortion is wrong is just that...an opinion. Some opinions are backed by religion. Some are back by education. Some are backed by fear or any multitude of motivations or reasons.
People get really upset when someone else says they are against something for "religious reasons". Why? Are they afraid that they are being judged? Well...yes. Are they afraid that their reason for being for or against something is not as good as a "religious" one? Well...yes.
The real question seems to be what followers of Christ would do to help the government in aiding all of these new mommies. Who knows...I can certainly tell you what I, as a Christian, would do..but that's not really the question.
What is the solution as a whole to the problem of how do we prevent women who don't want children from getting pregnant? Well...for that I think you'll have to ask the women.
Rape and other violent sexual acts notwithstanding, the obvious solution is for people to not have sex until they are married, or at least with the person they are going to spend their lives with ( I certainly don't think marriage constitutes the only way people can be together forever). Now is that a religious opinion? No...I'm more of a common sense type person. If it makes sense, that's what I do.
Jesus would say to anyone (not necessarily only Christians) to help anyone in need, to do their part, to contribute, to be compassionate, to do unto others righteously. Do these values fall in line with "religious" doctrines? Well, yes they do. Should that matter? No, it should not.
Thanks

Probably what he would tell any woman. It takes sacrifice, hard
work, love and devotion no matter who the woman is.
Many women who are not in a financial situattion to raise
a child still decide to get pregnant.
Nonetheless abortion is not a religous issue. There are
MANY Athiest and Non-Christian Pro Life groups out there.
Here have a look!
http://www.gargaro.com/abortion/alt.html
I also belong to a group called "alternative Lifers"
which is a secular pro life group. Feel free to have
a look around here as well.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AlternativeLifers/
And the numbers are growing. Abortion is a big
deal for alot of Athiests, and Non-conseratives.

Well, I would think that Jesus would want those children to have as much love and opportunity as possible. So besides throwing money at corrupt governmental institutions and requiring that these families accept a certain world view / faith before being eligible for assistance, I say: offer to tutor the child. baby sit while the mom is at work, and give to well established charities.

If a woman was raped and had no way to support herself and the baby, Jesus would want her to get a temporary hand out. If she is a Christian she could get help from the church she goes to. If Christians were taught to abstain from sex until marriage and they do it any way, then sometimes those hard knocks lessons are the ones that stick. If a woman or man insists on having sex when they are not married, they should by law have to put the child up for adoption or pay child support until the child is adopted. If we do it Gods way, we will get married and have sex, and use birth control if we don't want children, or if we want them, consider them a gift from God, like they are. We will be responsible for our own actions and stop expecting the government or the church to bail us out every time we mess up.i

Jesus only wanted people having sex after being married therefore this wouldnt be an issue. HOWEVER, this already happened so I cant speak for him but probably give these babies to a husband/wife who were unable to bear children. I, however had 2 kids out of wedlock, so I would be the wrong person to preach this.

First of all God has a plan for everyone! That baby was part of
God's plan!Even if the baby is in your tummy!"miscarriage may be planned, accidental,or natural.Pregnancy is interrupted and the unborn baby dies.Planned miscarriage is called abortion and ranges from destructing of the fertilized egg to dismemberment and force ejection of the full term baby. The Bible says in Jeremiah 1:5 "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world." In Genesis 9:5-6 murder is forbidden.Animals that kill people must die,and any person who murders must be kill."Remember this was said before Jesus died on the cross"There is many people out there that would love nothing else in life but to have a baby. Please stop abortion!!

Well, Bush has been trying as hard as he can to get rid of Roe VS Wade, so this is a strong possibility.
He has already eroded most of womens rights in this area.
I am past child bearing age & am fixed, but you young people need to wake up & change what Bush has been doing.
If you don't ant to abort, that is fine, but other women should be able to control their own bodies.

For those who do not want to keep their child, adoption is a good source. My oldest would love to have a child but cannot. She thinks it is so unfair that people want to kill what she cannot have. There are those that would still have full term abortion. I would say that Christians need to help them. They need to give to the mother and child, time, money, and love. They need to give a supportive atmosphere in the name of the Lord.

I'm not sure, but if I were infertile and had the money to adopt more than one child I would adopt a pregnant child. (If the pregnant child wants to be adopted of course)
