Okay here is the issue..

Me and my roomate have comcast internet. The modem is fine because when you connect it directly to the computer it works for both of them. I have a D-link DL-604 Router. I connected the cable to the modem and that is hooked up fine, the router and the modem are connected and our two ethernet cords are connected to the router. The internet connection for both computers does not work. When i go into the internet connection (lan/high speed) it says it is connected. I tried to release and renew both ip's and it renews them, but we still can't get on the internet.

Can someone explain to me step by step how to fix this problem and the one that works will get 10 points! Thank you :)

It is not wireless.. we have had this router in our sorority house for like 3 years and it has worked fine, but we recently moved to a new house. I have the D-Link cd and book. Can i just re-install the router to both computers??

PC Doctor- The reset button on the back of my router is about the size of the end of a paperclip and i stuck one in to reset it and nothing happens! It just moves around the inside of the router.

Easy way out. Press reset button on the back of the router 10 sec. and set it up again 192.168.0.1 user name is admin and the password is blank.
Otherwise log in to the router and check setting like filters on the advance tabs.
Log in 192.168.0.1 user name ADMIN, password is blank. (this is default information you might had created your own auser and password.)
once log in click ADVANCE then on the left side click FILTERS
1st select IPFILTERS and bellow click DISABLE then click APPLY
2nd select MACFLITERS then click Disable then APPLY
then try to go online see if it worked.
Otherwise feel free to e-mail me

Check your IP settings on the PC - check that you have a default gateway address and that the this address is the address of the router that the PCs are connecting to.

Can the PCs ping each other? Open a command line window and enter ping and the address of the other PC.

If that works, and you have the correct default gateway then ping the address of the default gateway. If that works then ping the other interface on the router, then the ethernet interface on the cable modem, etc. but i suspect that you have an issue with your default gateway address. if not, then you will probably have to logon to your router and check it's configuration.

Edit: open a command line prompt on your PC - program->accesories->command prompt
then type ipconfig /all

one of the lines that will be returned will say "Default Gateway".

now type ping followed by the default gateway address. for instance: ping 192.168.1.1

Is the Modem giving an IP address to the Router? Did you follow the Router directions exactly? If you didn't hook everything up and turn everything on and off per the directions, it's not going to work. Do you still have those directions?

Switch off your system and the router.
Pull out all the jacks and then reinsert them properly. Restart.

I've had a similar problem with my router (Netgear) which has both wireless, as well as 4 wired connection ports.

Log onto the management page for the router and check your configuration. The docs will explain how to do this.

is it wireless? if so.. you're probably not catching the signal. we had the same problem about 2 weeks ago.
