Empty it more often and get a lid for it.

Thats disgusting, you clearly never clean your bin for it to get that kind of state.

You need to take it outside empty all the crap including the maggots out making sure you have got rid of all of them. then take it back in, fill it with a strong solution of hot soapy water and bleach to disinfect it. leave for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly. Make sure you dry it well then put a clean bin bag in.

If you clean it out good and proper each time you change the bin or least once a week you will never have a problem with pests of any sort again.

If you're referring to a kitchen trash can- then make sure you are taking your trash out every night. Rinse the maggots out on the lawn, then clean with bleach. Get a fly paper and hang it by your trash. (Flies are what produce maggots, and when they land they lay eggs.) When everyone goes to bed, the house settles and the flies settle to lay eggs. Spray "Off" bug spray or sprinkle a powdered flea killer inside your can before you put the bag in. Get a can that has a "step lid". These usually have a seal and the flies can't get in. Good luck! We had the same problem and when we took these steps- bye bye maggots and flies!

Join the club
Try salt or boiling water.
When your bin is clean and maggot free, spray fly spray all in and around the bin this will deter the flies and eliminate the maggots.
Tried bleach it didnt work the pesky things just crawled through it!

If they are only in you bin - take the bin outside, tip it upside down, bang it a few times and the maggots will all fall out - and the birds will have a wonderful meal. Once they've gone they've done. What's the problem.

Put them in a pie and feed to someone. That shoudl get rid of them.
Or you could try cleaning the bin and removing the cause - check that you don't have a dead body at the bottom of the bin.

you must have a pretty nasty bin if you have maggots in the bottom of it. that is just wrong. maybe you should try taking the rubbish out once in a while and clean your bin. i am 19 and have been living on my own since 17 and have never had maggots. your place must stink.

High pressure hose, disinfectant, bleach. Rinse down drain.

Sell maggots beforehand to a fisherman to offset costs.
