Music started going downhill in about 1990 or so. It seemed to coincide with the boom of hip-hop. Hip-hop lowered the level of good music so far that it wasnt hard for others to keep up. So instead of the great bands of the 60's 70's and 80's and maybe a few 90's, you see boring, lame , played music that is only around because of people who hate Hip-hop and will listen to anything else. If you think about it...it makes sense. I dont think we will see good music again until Hip Hop as we know it is gone. That will be incentive for new and fresh ROCK groups to get out there and start producing some good stuff again.

Hey I know what you mean. I have a feeling that we are entering an era of really crappy music. I know some of you will beg to differ and to some extend I do agree that every decade has their own embarassing music but I think now is more than ever. I believe that artistes are now more about the money than the soul. The generation now is more about sex, money, bling, angst and being cool.

I missed the sounds of Motown, old skool rock/punk, dreamy 60s, glam 70s and new wave 80s. From the 90s, it was downhill from there with all those meaningless pop.

Maybe you are listening to the wrong rock music. If you are watching MTV, they play music that sounds the same because it appeals to the mainstream (teenagers). Find a good rock station on the radio, and you will find that it doesn't all sound the same. I recommend bands like Shinedown, Stone Sour, Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, Radiohead, and Nickelback. Sure, a lot of rock sounds the same (especially "emo" rock) nowadays, but there are still rock bands out there that have an original sound.

I agree some of them are lame but not all. Watch out for psychedellic-pop like Gnarls Barkley or True rock genius like Duncan Sheikh.

you're getting older. All pop music begins to sound the same after a while. There are only so many ways you can rearrange those same 12 notes.

I agree. I wonder why that is also. I think its because the industry itself is so cuthroat and such a huge buisness-and thats exactly what it is...buisness. It completley effects the music if record exec's and buisness partners are trying to find music that will appeal to a variety of people...which unfortunatley makes them sounds like commercials!

It does sound the same. I think it really has to do with the ages of people now. When I was 13, 14 15 I was listening to Pantera, COF, Manson, that sort. Now they listen to AFI, and other silly bullsh*t. I truly think it is the age of these people.

Because people used to write their own songs and it was actually about the music. Now it's all about the money they make off the music

The record companies are in it for the money only and not for the art. There are still people making new, original and fresh music, but they aren't put on the radio.
