My cat killed a black snake, approximately 9 inches long, with a large pale stripe behind its head, faint whitish markings that look like inverted "V"s, and a grayish underbelly that appears to resemble the limited collection of pictures of Philippine snakes. That or a tree snake. Really would like direction to a better catalog of snakes here in the PI.

Haven't managed to find an online guide to philippine snakes, or a field guide book that you could order from amazon :(

There's a few species of snakes pictured on this site here:-
http://www.herpaworld.com/
and they may be worth contacting to see if they can make any suggestions for filed guides etc.

Another possibility would be to contact the the Wildlife Society of the Philippines and see if they can suggest a book or website to help you. Here's their link:-

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

If you value nature at all you should keep your cat indoors!!!!
you see what happens when it goes out....Hopefully next time it is the one who gets grabbed, by a fer-de-lance........
