I just bought a new Viewsonic monitor and plugged the power supply into the wall and then into the monitor and the fire flew. The monitor doesnt seem to be harmed, do you think i might have damaged it. Why would this happen?

Take it back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement. I suspect it is defected.

To be on the safe side from fires, and losing your monitor after the warrant-- I would definetly return it or call the support service number for the monitor
