I prefer to eat alone or with friends/family. It can be too awkward otherwise.

I can understand you if you masticate with your mouth opening and closing like when you are chomping and making loud smacking sound. But chewing properly with your mouth closed is the proper way of eating and should not be awkward even in front of total strangers.

Remember to keep your mouth closed when masticating in front of others.
I guess I'm kind of funny because I kind of like public mastication. I eat out frequently.

Yes especially at restaurants. I masticate all the time especially when eating right before digestion.

I masticate anytime and anywhere when I feel like it! I like to do it with bubble gum a lot too! Blowing bubbles is fun!
BTW, to the previos poster, masticate is a word and it means to chew.
