Everytime he approaches the plate he looks at something in the stands on the third base side. If you don't know the answer please don't guess.

He focuses on a certain object in the stands, a different one every time, to get his eyes ready to focus on the ball better.

The positioning on the field (where the outfielders are playing him at)...sometimes, hitters stare at the pitcher, to get the "physicological" advantage...

Baseball is very "mind" oriented...a lot of mind games take place, that most people do not really catch.
