Well the groups Anura and Bufonidae probably are descendants of a common ancestor making them monophyletic.
Adaptations for both have driven the formation of various changes in these animals.
I would have to say that frogs or at least an animal more similar to frogs would have appeared first. Many animals today have aquatic origins, and frogs are generally more tied to the aquatic life than toads. Frogs are less tolerant of dry conditions, and must remain close to water, this is probably due to the fact that they retained many physiological restrictions from their original design, wheras toads are probably a little newer in the sense that they have adapted to a more terrestrial lifestyle, and only rely on water for reproduction,
So there you have it, the Frogs most likely came first!

This is my opinion! No facts.
Both frogs and toads begin life in similar ways. They originated as water animals and learned to live on the land. The frog still lives in both the water and land. The toad moves onto the land and returns to the water only to mate and drink. I think it took longer to move onto the land, So, for that reason, I think the toad came ashore first.
On the other hand, there are more kinds of frogs. Maybe they have been ashore longer and that is why there are more breeds of them. But I think since they stay in and around the water, rather than going out to explore, they have had more chances to breed and produce more varieties.
;-D Toads are more like land animals. I think they have been here longer.

The toad is actually a frog! The earliest known frog appeared during the late Jurassic period, about 190 million years ago! Scientists believe that the oldest frogs developed jumping legs to avoid being eaten by dinosaurs. So the frog came first

Probably the frog. Toads lay eggs in water as frogs do but live on land. Living out of the water would seem to be an adaptation to environmental change.

I'd say the frog was first, then toads evolved from them. Reason being, frogs are amphibian and still must have water to reproduce in. Toads do not have that restriction.

I assume the frog, since it is the more amphibious of the two & all life allegedly comes from the water. Do I win a prize? ; ) Good luck on your project.

They came about at around the same time in the Jurrasic Period. The differences in them are due mostly to the different environments, climates, etc.
