There are a few options... you can Archive the file (ZIP it) using compressed folders in Windows XP
Or you can convert the file to a more compressed format. There are various tools out there that will convert a file from one format to another.

You can send it through MSN or Yahoo messenger, providing the person is online at the same time as you.
