well its all about the menstruation period, and this longs about 1 month for one single egg (female reproduction cell) to be ready to be inseminated by male reproduction cell which is called as sprem.i hope it will make ur mind clear enough ;)..bye

It used to be called menstrual period telling the period of her menstruation. Then they shortened it to period. Shorter and easier to say.
