Ideally, of course, your best option is to arrange your schedule so that you don't have to stay up late after a tiresome day. However, all students find themselves in your position at one time or another. What works for me is a steady supply of strong tea (or coffee, if that's your preference). Make it one cup at a time so that you periodically have something to do with your hands in addition to the infusion of caffeine. The task will alleviate the monotony of studying. Music also helps me stay up - something percussive with a fast tempo that's difficult to fall asleep to. If you really find your eyelids drooping, get up from your desk and do 50 jumping jacks. A little strenuous activity goes a long way towards increasing your alertness. Good luck!

Doctors reccommend NOT waking up a sleeping baby. They say that if the baby is sleeping it's because he/she NEEDS to. That's when they grow, afterall! My twins were the same way- they didn't sleep well at night, and when they were asleep during the day, you couldn't wake them up. It is totally normal. Sure, there are the few and fortunate people with 3 day olds that sleep through the night, but that's not the reality for most of us. The biggest thing right now is getting your baby to fall asleep at a certain time at night. He may not STAY asleep, but establishing the beginning of the routine is the most impportant part. For example, at 8 pm, give him a bath, then snuggle with a story or maybe just rock in a rocking chair and hum. Then, at 9, lay the baby in the crib, whether he's asleep or not! Even if he doesn't fall asleep right away and cries, keep at it. You can let him cry for a little while and then go in and get him, and try again. Eventually it will work most of the time, and then the waking up during the night will start to diminish. Remember, he had 9 whole months in your stomach to establish his OWN sleeping routines! Good luck!

I always had something to munch on whenever I had to stay up late. Cereal, candy, whatever was handy. Of course, eating candy all night is not very good for you, but neither is getting too little sleep.
Getting up from the desk periodically and going for a walk (or just walking around the house) helps, too.

sometimes due to circumstances, students have to study late. i don't recommend it on a regular basis, especially if you are cramming on nights before the exams.
otherwise, the power nap is good.
frequent breaks to get up and move around.
peppermint tea or a peppermint candle always helps me focus.
if you are going the eating-to-stay-awake route, steer clear of sugar which will cause you blood sugar to rise then fall making you sleepy. a handful of almonds or peanuts is good.
also, make sure you are not studying at the expense of sleeping. if you are not getting adequate sleep, your brain will not learn and remember efficiently.
hope this helps!

Take a power-nap, apparently its some yoga-thing
Its about 15-minutes and it said to be the same as a 1-hour nap.
You lay down, and pull yourself up to a wall, and put your feet all the way up....its hard to explain. The way you should be is basically with your legs straight up against the wall, and your back on the floor.
try to get as close to wall as possible, and don't cross your arms over your chest, and don't cross your legs
hope it works!
