The "trick" is to practise a lot, and you'll learn to "see" certain patterns involving the numbers - I know of friends who may struggle to finish a "gentle" puzzle but breeze through harder puzzles.
I too experienced such thing but do go to this site to the average time to finsh the given puzzle.
I've now strayed to the jigsaw sudoku which is much more challenging!

I usually try to finish one number at a time. i.e. find where all of the one's go, then two's... I have some others, but tricks to sudoku are hard if you can't actually show a person. Best of luck, just keep trying them and you'll eventually find your own method.

There is no secret, your Aunt just doesn't know how to explain the game easily. It all logic. Most suduko books have easy to understand explainations of all the various techniques needed at the beginning. The thing about suduko is the closer you get to finishing the puzzle, the easier it is to finish it.

A secret? I just use a process of elimination using the numbers already given to you. It works for me!

There is no "secret" or "trick" - but there are multiple approaches to working through a grid.

There is no "trick" to it. Just focus on one column, row, or box at a time.
