Why the efeminate voices, its put on isn't it?, noone talks like that, i've heard gays guys slip into normal voices when they are relaxed! confuses me, and if you are so into men, why do SOME gays act like women, i thought women weren't attractive, same with SOME lesbians why do SOME dress like men if thereare only into women.

Please no ranting i am purely posing a question and not saying anything bad about you as people, maybe others may wonder these things so now is a good time to just give us un-aware-of-gay-people abit of insight,
sorry if my tone appears rude, i was never any good at english!

Some gays are butch. Some gays apear straight. Some gays are effeminate. Some people are transgender.

I can't understand why some people do nothing but watch sports on television. I can't understand how some people can spend hours shopping. I like indian food but not Kimchi. And life goes on...

Ok....first of all not all gay men talk or act in a feminine way. Those that do usually have more feminine qualities NATURALLY. The ones that may not talk like this normally are probably more comfortable in a feminine roll than in the macho roll that society wants them to act in. As far as the more masculine women are concerned. OUCH...you hit a nerve with this. My partner is what I consider a soft butch. She's not manly to the point where you can't tell she's a woman but she is very much the tomboy type. She's been like that since she was a CHILD. Was never gung-ho on having to wear dresses or be foo-foo'd up as a child. It's just the way she is.

Some people when they forst come out just go crazy! They LIVE the Gay Experience up as much as they can. SOme calm down and just be themselves, others create this character in thir head. This ultra gay character that Gives them strength and courage to Be Who they are no matter the stares and criticisms! Its all a mask I feel but its psychological! There are some that are just born efeminate and that is the way they talk and act!

I haven't been a subscriber on Answers long enough to see this question before so I'll take a stab at it. There are two reasons gay men are effeminate (sp?), and this probably goes for lesbians as well.

I may make some enemies saying this, but I feel that gay men's brains are inherently wired like a woman's. Thus, they talk a little like a woman and in many ways identify with women. This includes being sexually attracted to men.

The other reason gay men talk like that and can turn it on and off at a whim is just plain old peer pressure. You get so used to some of your friends calling you "guuurl!" that you just start doing it yourself. Plus, it's kind of fun sometimes.

Does anyone else agree?

Why does this question get asked repeatedly? Why don't people search Yahoo Answers before posing a question? Is it because they are actually trying to make a rude point, or say something bad about people, without appearing to be nasty and mean spirited?

Yes, there are effeminate gay men; they are who they are. They form a very small percentage of the gay population. Most gay men are not distinguishable from straight men except by who they have as a partner.

Effeminate gay men make great comedy fodder for Hollywood - just like dumb blondes (and dumb handsome jocks). Just as black men were relegated to the 'villain' roles in movies for decades. The media does not reflect life, it caricatures it.

not all gay men talk with a feminine voice, and those that do it may be because they are intouch or relate to their feminine side, it may be because are more timid, gentle and feminine and want their voice to reflect this.

some gay men dress femininely beccause that is how they wish to dress, how they feeel comfortable and the same for some lesbians. some straight women also dresss very manly. the way people act, speak and dress is not all abouot sexuality, it is about their identity as a person, a reflection of how they feel and how they feel comfortable.....only straight people assume a gay persons dress sense is based on their sexuality and not any other component of who they are yet they assume straight people dress according to fashion and comfort......gay people are more than just walking sexual urges the same as straight people, there are certain fashions which some people abide by and others completley ignore.

I think it's a kind of way to identify. Many gay men are subconsciously saying, "I am part of this group" and identifying themselves. On the flip side I do blame the media since the media often showed only effeminate men as gay, and butch women as lesbians. I guess in many ways they wanted everyone to think you could tell people's sexuality by that trait. Of course people like to be in the know, now a lot of Americans feel that they don't know if a man's gay cause so many are now just like the average Joe...

I would have to agree with some of the great answers above.

I am a gay male and I don't have a slisp or anything, I have a fluctualting voice, that holds emotion and contrast to views (very much *not* monotone) and I feel that I am not pressured to force my voice to sound like *the man voice*. For example if you ever here a middle school boys choir (I direct one so I know!) boys will try to sing thier notes as low as possible even though they are obvciously tenors! They wont want to show thier excitement for music sometimes becase they are afraid it isn't in the norm. Again playing to society based sterotypes.

And with the clothing thing, I feel that GLBTQ have this overal feeling of...above the social pressures, they are more free to conduct themseves in the ways that they see fit, with self expression, clothing, mannerisms, and speech.

If you have further questions, because I feel that you want to know more but do not know where to recieve proper enlightenment, please email me.

Hope it helped!

this question is getting rather tiresome. that is a stereotype. yes, there are some gay men that talk that way, but I've also met straight men who do!
as far as how we lesbians dress...that's also stereotype. there are lots of feminine lesbians, and I've also met very butch straight women. it's just personal preference and what's comfortable. everything you mentioned is nothing but stereotypes you've probably seen on tv or in the movies. you need to meet more gay/lesbians!

Like any minority or majority there are different strokes for different folks. The media plays to the femme gays and the butch lesbians to sensationalize thier needs. I can assure you the vast majority of gay men are average to very masculine. We watch sports, drink beer, ride in rodeos and so forth.

I wished people would stop believeing the stereo types and realize we are normal people.
