By no means reality. Original and creative, yes. Also depending on which works and parts of works you choose to read.

I think one of the reasons Thompson was and is still so treasured is because of his tolerance for chemicals and the documented antics because of those chemicals. I believe young men are attracted to that kind of debauchery. My husband is a huge fan and actually planned with a friend to attend Thompson's funeral, had it been a public one.

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, get it right, is one of America's cherished folk story tellers/anti-hero's. He tells stories in simple ways with out being wordy or overly descriptive. He gives the reader what they need to understand, and imagine the world that he is telling us about. Even if it is covered in 6 inch of blow or has been changed by the ultimate hit of Sunshine Acid. EAT.

His character were real but yet larger than life. There was almost a simple truth to them. This is who they are, this is what they would do, and still they astound you and make you laugh. The very thought that a man can walk in to a Las Vegas casino and destroy it and not have the hotel be wise to it, even back in the early seventies, is purely amazing to me. How true it really is, well that is up to the reader.
