Hi everyone, I would like to know your thoughts on suicide. If a person say to someone "Go kill yourself" or "Why don't you go jump off a cliff" and that someone has committed the act. And the police finds that person dead, and they left a note saying so and so said to kill myself. Should that person be held accountable? Like if they did murder that person (first degree or second degree murder), or not at all? Looking forward to your thoughts. thanks^^

Suicide is a personal choice. People can tell you to commit suicide but they cannot make you. You would only do the act they told you to if you were already considering it.

You own your life, you should be able to choose your death also.

If you kill yourself because someone has told you to do that, then you are a fool. Unless there is direct evidence of manipulation in terms of post - hypnotic suggestion then the only person responsible for a suicide is the person who commits the act. Suicide is by it's very definition self - murder. No one is accountable except yourself.

If the person actually committed suicide, it is the committer to be held accountable, had they lived. There may have been extenuating factors involved, but the person did it themselves. It's not someone else's fault.

Now that person who told them to go kill themselves might feel guilty.... And they probably should for a while, but still, it's not their fault.

The only way it would really be someone else's fault is if it were not actually suicide. If another person held a gun or other weapon on the person and told them they had to write the note or else, and if they held a weapon on the person and forced them to kill themselves. That's murder.

There are two points to be noted here. 1. No one has the right to ask some one to die. 2. Suicide is absolutely cowardly - they are just escaping from all the responsibilities.

Whether the law hold the person responsible or not depends upon a lot of things. But the dead person has already punished his tormentor by indicating him. He is going to die every other day with remorse and guilt. May god give him peace of mind.

It really depends on how the message was said and if they knew that the person they were saying it to would be influenced by their comments.

Lets say for instance I say that to a buddy in a retort for a jibe from him. Then I would not expect him to go off and do it. However if that same person was depressed or mentally incapable of making the deistinction between a off hand remark and a commend and I am aware of that then it is premeditated Therefore I should be held responsible.

Don't you just love the "err well it depends " answers :-)

Thats my 2c

A says "Go kill yourself." B kills himself.

A is responsible if:
B is a minor child.
B is mentally or emotionally dependent or challenged.
B's judgement is impaired, and A was aware of the condition.
B is in a subordinate position, and A has administrative power, as in the case of a captain and a private, a police officer and a suspect, and prison guard and a prisoner, etc.

B is otherwise responsible for his or her own actions.

No. The person should not be held accountable. Unless they stood their and forced them off the bridge or whatever. Actually, the idiot who killed themself just b/c someone told them to is very accountable for not having their own views on life and just doing what others tell them to.

Absolutely not. If a person if of like mind to kill themselves and want to lay blame on others for the their own cowardice or inability to cope with life. i would suggest we resuscitate the suicide victim to have them be held accountable for their own stupidity.

This is a really bizarre question.
1. No, not responsible for someone who is a moron.
2. Then again, why do bars sometimes get blamed--and sued --for the drunks that leave their establishments and get into a car accident and die. Who TOLD them to drink and get bombed???

No, I believe it's the own person's fault.

The person who committed suicide alone is to blame. The blame can not be attached to anyone else. One is grown up enough to take responsibility for one's own acts and he can not say "I did this since so and so told me to do so!"
