For Yahoo! Messenger: Open and log on to Yahoo! Messenger. On the messenger window click on "Messenger" then "Preferences". Next click on the "General" section. Make sure to uncheck the feature "When I start up my computer: Automatically start Yahoo! Messenger" then click on "Apply" and "ok".
If you cant do it this way, START--> RUN --> type "msconfig"
Go to the STARTUP tab and untick the box that says "ymsngr.exe" or something beginning with "y", and restart pc on prompt.

all you have to do is sugn out of messenger and then remove the uncheck automatically sign into messenger. and if other people use the computer, then remove the uncheck remember my username and password. then you wont have the problem of the messenger logging into your account automatically. also you can change the settings in the preferences of your messenger. press ctrl+shift+p and in the first menu there's the option of automatically sign. uncheck that option

It's doing that because you've wired (set up) your Internet and your computer to automatically set up your messenger, without signing you in. So, if you have your main source of Internet signal turned on/plugged in when you turn on your computer, the computer will say *oh, she's got Internet connection, sign her in to messenger*. If you take away that source before you turn on your computer, chances are, that Yahoo! will stop signing you in automatically.

Ok. You have to go to your Yahoo Messenger preferences. In this section, you will be able to edit all of the things you want to change. Once you are in Yahoo Messenger, go to the top bar (yahoo messeger) and click on Preferences.

You have to change your preferences look on the menu and click preferences.
There is 2 options:
1 is to start when windows starts this will start the computer at boot.
2 remove the connect when connection is avaiable and also remove the store password check box this will keep it from sign in.

I've had this happen to me; as long as you log off completely,
it should remedy the problem.

Go to preferences, go to general tab, and click so it won't logon automatically.
