Who are better at detecting lies, men or women?

and who are better at telling a lie?

So if women are better at telling lies, for example, how do we know if we're so good at it?

Detecting, well intuition is not gender specific to the best of my knowledge. If just by reading body language, then it depends on the skill sets that one has developed, requires experience and constant interaction with other humans. So guess it'd be about equal

Lying-even here I think it's about equal. However, a good liar is one who is never detected to have lied, in spite of lying constantly.

Well, Paul Ekman wrote a book about how to detect a lie, where he explains some of the non-verbal behavior displayed for people when telling a lie. The other part of the story is that women are better decoding facial expressions than men. So, women have an advantage over men telling a lie face to face.

Apparently, women are thought to be the better at detecting lies due to their higher emotional levels and their ability to relate to certain emotions in much stronger levels than that of men.

For example, certain expressions on the liars face that indicate that they are in fact lying, can be easily traced by the women when compared to men as they can 'sense' and see the 'signs' much more clearer and more obviously.

However, men were the hunters of the family back in the 'stone-age' as it were, which might have heightened their senses gradually over a period of time which may mean that they, in fact, can detect lies better than women.

Until there is a study done, to prove or disprove this theory (which I'm sure there probably is) I cannot be one hundred percent sure!

Women assume all their lies are undetectable, they are not.
They also assume Men always lie so never believe anything without proof.
Men do lie to women all the time, but only get caught half the time.
Women are terrible liars and cannot detect a lie.
Men have had a lot of practise in both.
All the women who responded, better wise up.

Don't worry though, we are no more evil than you are, we just don't particularly like being nagged all the time.
So we get creative.

Men are poor at telling lies........ but we get away with it easily. We can determine whether a woman is lying but we just don't really bítch about it.

Women are good at detecting lies.............. because they're paranoid and always suspiscious with the things that surrounds them -- they'll interrogate you until they hear what they want to hear (geez!) :P. They're very good at telling lies because they always have an alternative to convince the other (for example, "I'm telling a lie right now but before you even corner me, how about a good dinner -- better yet how about blowing your mind in bed?").

I think women. Women are more critical and observant of details which may include the gestures, voice tone and visible uncomfort that appears when one is being dishonest. Since women are usually the only ones who notice these things, they know what to avoid doing when they do lie.

But this doesn't go for everyone. There are a lot of guys that are pretty much walking lie detectors too.

men are the best liars, they can lie through their teeth about something and feel no remorse, and even have the cheek to deny they were lying when the truth is found out!!

with the detecting lies bit, I think both. Some people are just more in tune with peoples body language and can notice it.

It's definately women. Women are more suspicious so better at detecting lies.

With regards to telling lies, it could be men actually, because they tend to lie more than women.
