It is the whole boys must act like men but it is ok for a girl to rely on her daddy thing. Boys must be strong and show no weakness, but a girl can cry and it is ok. We live in a confused society when we try to make our boys independent and men before they are ready, and teach our girls they should depend on a man when they can be strong in their own right.

I don't think being called a "daddy's girl" is necessarily a good thing. There is the implication that an adult with that distinction doesn't have independence and relies on her father's resources to get ahead in life rather than working hard and building a life for herself. Look at famous women who don't do much or have any discernible talent or accomplishments with rich dads. Is that really how to gain a respectable reputation?

Probably has something to do with the traditional view of women being dependent on men.

Also, each phrase has slightly different implications. A Daddy's girl is usually a girl who gets everything she asks for from her dad. A Momma's boy is pictured as a boy who does everything his mother tells him too, no matter how embarrassing or counter-productive it is.

So...a girl who is dependent on her father is fine, whereas a boy who depends on his mother seems somehow weak.

I don't think it is neccessarily good to be a "daddy's girl". Every female I've ever met who was referred to as a "daddy's girl" has been known for acting sweet to get what she wants and just overall very spoiled. No... not a good thing at all.

Because being a Momma's boy is considered being weak and
wimpy, when actually it means you have a good relationship with your mother.

I'm a Momma and have no problem with Momma's boys

Because being a Daddy's girl is endearing. Being a Momma's
boy is too feminine for a male.

Its a classic double standard. Men are stereotypically supposed to be self reliant and "tough". Women stereotypically are supposed to be the opposite.
Therefore it is seen as OK for a daughter to be emotionally dependent,I use this term loosely, on Dad. It is not seen as OK for a son to reliant on Mom so much.

i think both are good as long as a person know when enough is a enough (once one is married the parent needs to be put on the back burner for the spouse and it seems the guys have a bigger ptobem stopping from putting mom first once married)
