I'd rather be forgotten now and famous later, but it doesn't have to be forever. So what does that say about who I am?

Neither and either.
If I were famous today, it depends on the type of fame we are talking about.
As far fame after I am dead, will it really matter to me, cause I'd be dead?
(Incidentally I have created a blog titled "Does it really make a difference to Isaac Newton or da Vinci or Galileo or Napoleon or Hitler?" asking for the reason for ones life., a few days ago.

Definitely famous after death, although my relatives would have to reconsider the epitaph I have planned for my Grave stone,
To the world he was nothing
To us he was everything.

It depends on what I'd be famous for, but I'd probably choose the latter.

famous after I am dead.
People don't remember much about the living after 15 minutes.
