We can reinvent our identity with a journal. We can express things we wouldn't usually, and we can manipulate how we look at ourselves.

I kept a lot of journals, and eventually i threw them away. I didn't like who i 'was'.

You can organize your thoughts and work out emotions. A journal will also memorialize in writing the closure you got after you resolve a problem.

The key is to make it for you and only you. That's a journal. If you want the world to see what you think online, create a blog. Just don't put your name or any identifying information, because it could come back to haunt you in a myriad of ways.

We can't remember all the stuff that happened to us some years ago...so writting a journal can help us see how our life was several years ago...and how our life is now..and compare the person we are now with the person we were a few years earlier. Also writting a journal makes some people to express their deepest thoughts and feelings...makes them feel more relaxed...it's like having a psychologist in a way!

I believe that a journal is another way, and i believe it is a good method of expressing yourself. There seems to be a higher level of honesty which comes out of a person when writing things down on paper, and there is a type of healing which can take place in the process.

How honest are you with your personal journal?

I maintain a journal and I strictly prohibit anyone to read it. It contain all my feelings at certain points -- my happiness, my hate, my fantasies, my faults, my inner thoughts, my assumptions... in other words, private things I cannot easily share with anyone, even to my own wife.

For me, the good things about maintaining a journal are:
1) I have something to come back to when a certain same feeling occurs. I have something to look at and see how I anticipated, or dealt with such a feeling;
2) It amuses me to see how I had overcome such a troubled thought;
3) At times when I'm down, I have something to remind me how to rise again... it doesn't fail so far.

There are still other reasons I cannot immediately share on here.

I'm glad to keep one for myself.

I kept a journal when I was an EMS field supervisor. I jotted down important aspects of more serious calls. This way if I were ever called into court, I could refresh my memory.

Don't forget to password the file if you are using Word.

I find that its easier to organize my thoughts and feelings if I write them down. Also it helps to get them out of my head/heart and not let them just sit in there and stew.

I often have looked back at my journals and find it inspirational that I have been through some of those things and have made it through them successfully. Its also a nice recollection of what has happened in my life.

I keep a journal.

Sometimes what I write in it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. I just like getting my thoughts out on paper.

It makes you feel better to write down your thoughts and emotions. The key is NOT to go back and reread what you wrote later on.
