I think Israel has been pretty serious.
I made a comment several days ago that I think we should arm both sides and get out of the way.
Diplomacy has failed miserably in the Middle East, and it's time for the gloves to come off. May the best man ( country ) win.

I would leave people alone to decide the fate of their own countries, practice fair trade and stop trying to pilfer other people's natural resources.
Don't you see that American foreign policy has inflamed the Middle-East? And who is the evil dictator? Do you really believe in American democracy? You have two parties (both of which are almost the same) and Bush seems to do exactly as he pleases with no regard for the will of the American people. He lied to get you into Iraq with phony WMD and what has any of that got to do with terrorism? Then he got into office again. The Bush family are more like a ruling dynasty (one that is friendly with the bin ladens!) than an elected party. Greedy capitalists are running your country, wake up!
You are making the Iranian's heroes in the eyes of the Muslim world, the only ones with the guts to stand up to the evil christian empire. Look what has happened with Hizbullah.
Think back 20 years, was there all this terrorism and middle-east crisis going on?
Your country has bombed the hell out of already poverty stricken people in Afghanistan and Iraq and you have now supported the Israelis doing the same to Lebanon. You have invaded two sovereign nations against the will of the international community. You have been exploiting the whole area for decades, keeping them poor and ignorant while you feed your own greed.
How do you expect people in the middle-east to feel about America?

Both political parties ave no real policy in the M.E.
the Israeli lobby in the USA have the USA policy what is the Israeli policy?
Look Israel want to keep Arab land that was never part of Israel and to do this they must force an agreement on the poor armless Palestinians. Iraq , Syria and Iran are seen by the Israelis as an obstacle to that policy. So we had the Iraq war, and now we have the Iran war call or the Syrian war call. this policy did not work in Iraq the new Iraq government is more critical of Israeli policy than Saddam.
Most of the Israeli leaders have no real plan for lasting peace. Peace to the Israeli leaders means the end of Israel. Israel is living on aids from the USA. Israeli lobby in the USA is more hard liner than the Israeli leaders on most positions. The Israel Lobby gets for Israel
4 billions $ each year from American taxpayers . how can Israel live without that lobby its true poor Jews and poor Arabs are getting killed everyday so can some lobbyist make his living in the USA and look most of that money go to war business. So Israeli leaders made the Jewish state a war zone forever.
A viable Palestine means a viable Israel and no viable Palestine means no viable Israel and wars go on between the two people.
No one could NOT change his mind unless he has no mind.
Occupying other people by force is losing policy in the past and now and has no future.

Sending in an army makes people VERY angry. Which means that the regimes you want to get rid of get more supporters, QED. America needs a much more diplomatic approach. Perhaps saying to Iran "if we find out you HAVE got nuclear weapons, then you're in SERIOUS trouble" I mean America has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world several times over - that's enough to get respect, even from the mad mullahs. Being bogged down in ANOTHER war is not going to do anyone any good - and it would be very costly, both in human life and in financial terms.
Something does need to be done about the middle east - but the middle easterners are the ones who need to do it. If they don't build democracy themselves it just won't work - look at the former African colonies. If America supported Iranian dissidents (and there are plenty of them) then they would grow stronger and maybe there'd be another Iranian revolution - this time giving them democracy. That way there'd be no American troops killed, America would have the moral high ground and the mullahs would be gone.

Oh great, everybody wants to start World War III ahead of schedule. Look, Israel is not helping out their own cause there. If they had done something about the Palastinian Economy 20 years ago, they would not be in this position.
On the other hand, dropping some bombs on the Hezbolah's heads was probably long overdue.

Military action to protect our interest will help protect us, but in the end I think the only way they will change over there is to start from the ground up. Until the indoctrination of the youth into hate filled extremist has stopped or become very marginalized nothing will change.
When the majority of the citizens of that region stand up for themselves and their religion something can change, but until that happens, our bombs and guns can only put a band-aid on the problem.

Something does need to be done but what? The people that are running the show there are not rational people. They don't value human life. As a culture, we don't understand them and I have to wonder if rational people within their own culture understand them.
A nuclear war is not the way to go, even on a limited scale the effects are much more devasting then can be imagined.

Why do you care? What is the middle east doing to you? Why don't we leave them alone; then they'd leave us alone. If America would mind its own business, we'd have a lot less problems.
One recurring theme in many of the questions seems to be that "WE" need to do this or that. Maybe those people like yourself that want to do something should actually go do it. Join the army, go shoot the arabs you apparently hate so much. Instead, people like yourself want others to go and die. What a world we live in!

I would pull all of our troops from the middle east. All americans would come home.
I would send a teleconference to Iran, Iraq, all of them telling them if there is one more attack on the USA I would personally see to it that our largest bomb be sent to thier country.
If the citizens of the Middle East did not want to be killed, they would handle the terror in thier own country.
All of the arabs here who own gas stations would be sent back to thier country. If they did not like it, too bad. National Security.
that is what I would do.
Oh yea, and if the terrorists did strike again, I would take thier country off of the map, the atlas, and the world.

I'm not sure anything can be done. I think the damage is diffidently been done over there and everything that is going happen now is a result of the neglect and understanding of the people of that region. For every action there is a reactions and I don't think the reaction to death is peace.
