Currently, Jamaican Asafa Powell has run 9.77 for 100m (twice). Olympic and World Champion, American Justin Gatlin has also run 9.77 for 100m once this year. (Sadly, Gatlin has tested positive for banned substance (testosterone) which he is appealing right now. If his appeal is not successful, then Powell is the unchallenged World's Fastest Man)

I believe Osafa Powell from Jamaica has the fastest time so far this year...might even hold the world record.

I think that would be Justin Gattlin who was just recently named the fastest man in the world.I'm not sure if I spelled his last name right but thats him
