I don't think there are legal issues as mp3 players come with encoders built in that allow you to record from fm radio. You will need some audio software like cool edit pro, and if you double click the volume icon in your tool bar and go to options > properties. click on the recording circle and make sure "stereo mixer" is ticked. Press ok and the box that was "volume control" will now become "recording control" Make sure the "stereo mixer" box is selected and put the volume slider to about halfway. Now if you press the record button on cool edit and play ANYthing on your computer, it will be recorded. Bear in mind that if you have an instant messenger service that plays a sound when you recieve a message this will also be picked up in the file. Once you've finished recording, just go to "save as" and export it as an mp3.

p.s this process will also work with windows sound recorder, however I think it only saves in WAV format, which can mean really large filesizes.

Logically, providing it's just for personal use, I would say that it's not illegal. If it is, then all these people using VCRs & DVD recorders to record their favourite TV programs are taking part in an illegal activity...we know that this is not the case. So, I would think that as long as it is for your own personal use then it's legal. The only thing I can think of is the question of paying a license fee. But does this mean that all radio broadcasts on the net are effectively pirate radio stations & we should not even be listening to them?...surely not.
You can get programs to record anything that goes into or comes out of your computer soundcard. An example of such a program is one called "looprecorder de".
