You: Your honor, If I have to pay this fine, then I want the $(what ever the max amount the meter will take) back I put in the meter because it obviously didn't give me any time and must have been broken.
Judge: Did you see the timer needle rise as you put your money in?
You: I was in a real hurry and just pumped the money in and left without paying attention. I just expected the city (county/borough) equipment would operate properly.
-----------
Note: The junior meter maids ususlly don't check meters for working conditions when they issue tickets.
P.S. If asked, you put quarters in the meter.

Don't park illegally? How expensive can a parking ticket be? Pay the fine and use it as a learning experience.

If you have more than one car in the street with a parking ticket, swap it with yours and throw yours away.. then complain to the police that they put the wrong ticket on your car.
You wont have to pay for that one and they will already have a record of this so they cannot then say you received a correct ticket and didnt pay it .. tried it once .. it worked .. cant say it would work again :)

There are none. There are really no excuses for parking illegally. You either did it or you didn't. No excuse will work no matter how much you plead with the police, judge, or court.

There are none that will result in you having the fine removed - you can try and contest it in court if you have a legal reason to, but an 'excuse' ain;t gonna work...
