It is like no others - very large, black cast iron with two knobbs on each side for easy hanging; they are not like the ones you would feed a chain through, the pot would just set on the chain and hang. You can see where at one time there were three legs on the bottom. I am interested in the history of these picticular cauldrons. If you might know anything about them or a web address I may go to learn more about this kind please let me know. Thanks

There are a lot of sites about pagan / wiccan practices with info on cauldrons. I've ignored those...they're easy enough to find. But you might want to check out this site.

Does the author's cauldron shown in figure 12 resemble yours?

Sounds like an old wash pot to me, they originally had a metal frame to sit on that kept them off the ground so you could light the fire underneath

it was probably used to cook in before there were stoves. It was hung in the fireplace & the heat from the fire cooked the food or boiled the water. Ask an antique dealer.
