I'd call it normal. You can interpret your pets silence in any way you'd like. And, usually, as long as you feed a pet you are the world in it's eyes.

Pets accept you as is as long as you feed them and give them some attention. People demand more. If you do not want to deal with that you can always become a hermit.

I think no.. pets are loyal and they give you unconditional love. unlike some people because most of them are just pretentious.
