Anaemia can cause fainting and dizziness, as well as fatigue and breathlessness. You'll need a blood test to identify it, but anaemia is VERY common in pregnancy and can be treated with simple iron tablets once diagnosed. You could always just try eating more iron rich foods - green leafy veg and red meats are good.

The main cause of fainting is dehydration. Mostly when it is hot, and the woman forgets to drink enough water. I used to work in an emergency room, and you would not believe the pregnant women who would come in because they were feeling faint, nauseated, weak, and sometimes even having contractions. They would be hooked up to an IV and given fluids, and told to rest and drink more water! Also try to stay out of direct sun or in a hot car or room for a long period of time.

Take a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. Also make sure that you try to eat something every few hours to prevents a drop in blood sugar levels, which can also lead to faintness.

If you are doing all of this and you still faint, go to the hospital. You could have toxemia, which is caused by an increase in blood pressure. Your doctor needs to know about anything unusual.

In my last two pregnancies, I've had a condition called vaso-vagal. There were times when I would get incredibly light-headed and would almost faint. There could be other conditions that could cause fainting while pregnant, but don't know about them.

If you do a quick search for "vaso-vagal", you will find more information. Below is a link to get you started.

Note: Typically, my bouts would usually hit immediately after eating and sometimes even during meals. I had several doctors tell me it was a nervous condition. They told me I was having panic attacks. I've had panic attacks, these were not even close to my panic attacks. There was finally one doctor who said, "oh, sounds like vaso-vagal". Nothing was ever done, but I never completely fainted. I weakened and collapsed, but I was fully conscious.

The Uterus exerts pressure on the large arteries running down to your legs, causing a lower blood pressure in your head. Consequently when you stand up, there is a low blood supply to the head causing light-headedness and perhaps fainting.

Changes in the body's metabolism can cause changes in blood pressure. Sometimes it leads to a fainting spell if conditions are right.
