Woodstock opened in 1969. Unless you were thinking a bit further back to World War II because this marks the day Japan surrendered. Or, knowing you as I do, do you mean the day that the Beatles played at Shea Stadium in 1965, marking the birth of stadium rock. My money is going to be on the Woodstock answer.

India and Pakistan won their independence from Great Britain, effectively bringing an end to the British Empire.
It took them a bit longer than it took us, but they were finally free of the "yoke of Imperialism."
I think England is now reassessing it's decision, made at that time, to permit all Indians and Pakistanis to come freely to England. They came. Most of them peacefully and made the Country better, but, look at what the small percentage of nut cases are up to. Do you condemn an entire people for the actions of a few?
Kudos to MI-6.

Elvis died? I was very young and remember that I was in a small town. I was listening to the radio with my cousin when all of a sudden the D.J. announced "THE KING IS DEAD". I was like "What king?".

It was hard to believe that Elvis was gone. I was really too young to enjoy his music...but with today's music I have a better appreciation for what he did to Rock & Roll.
