this usualy indicates that windows has recognised that there as it indeed says some form of fault on the computer. What the computer does is shuts down to prevent any damage to the computer. Now if you cant access the safe mode option then I would suggest trying to use maybe the system disk that came with your pc. It may be that the hard rive has a currupt file on it some where.

Hmm i need more info did you get the blue screen of death or a DEP warning ?
If you can get back into windows make sure you run a virus scan adaware scan and that Windows has the latest updates.. if you cant it looks like windows is corrupted and it's time for a reformat and reinstall.

This means your system is overheating, check all the fans are working, open the case and visually inspect that all the fans are running and there is nothing that is blocking their way
these are the things you can do. if you do not want to loose your system board and processor.
Make sure the room you are working in is properly ventilated and that your tower is not placed at a place where it cannot get sufficient air to blow the heat away.

Usually that means that the processor is overheating. You can try cleaning the fan(s) in the computer case and over the processor to see if that helps. If they are too dirty they can prevent air flow and overheat. If not, you are going to want to have a proffessional look at the machine. You do not want to burn up your processor and system board ($300-500 to replace them).

I had that happen shortly after I saw your question for the first time. I had accentally opened two incompatible programs. Just shut down one program and go on your way.
