Because the Olert gov't decided it was better to go with world opinion even though they know they are right to continue the war. Israel is attempting to show as usual it is a nation that abided by its treaties and but its internal and international laws. Hezbolloo will break them first again - that is what will likely happen. If it doesn't then Israel wins anyway. Either way Israel is trying to do the right thing - Israel is the one's here that tries to follow what is moral - that is their motivation. You can't run a country by listening to poles only - the people are not always aware of everything.

because they failed -in a horrible way- to disarm Hezbollah. and they also didnt imagine that Hezbollah could cauze alll this damages in the Israeli army and Israel itself.. they thought they ll finish Hezbollah in a couple of days but they were dreaming.
Thats why they agree to cease fire, to keep their face in front of the world. becauze if they continued they would have been destroyed... By the way, Israel doesnt care if Israelis (and the whole world) support it or not !

Israel has a superb military organisation but the lesson from history is don't overextend your ambitions.
Israel's goal was to remove the threat of Hizbollahs persistent rocket attacks and they have largely achieved that through the UN resolution which (if it works) should insert UN blue hats into South Lebonon and eliminate the Hizbollah from their flank. So mission accomplished.

Israel did not want to be attacked by iran and syria, but by agreeing they are allowing hezbollah to regroup and gather more strength, and possible nukes. I think Isreal should have just finished the job.
