Go to your county court house and fill out a couple forms. A judge will ask you a couple questions to make sure you are not trying to avoid debts or anything, and grant the request. You pay a couple bucks and your name is changed.

You first have to go to tthe county clerks office in the county you live. Then you will fill out a petition for legal name change and it will cost yousome money to file it with the court. Then you have to run a newspaper ad (again, in your county) for 3 months, I believe. It might be differnt time period in other states. Once no one has come forward to dispute the name change and you are not trying to avoid prosecution of a crime then you go in front of the judge and he/she will ask why you want your name changed. If all goes as planned, you will have a new name. Then the hard part of changing all your personal documents comes into play.

It depends on which state you are in. I would do an Internet search for courts and the relevant state. Try to find the court that deals with domestic or family. Call the clerk and ask. There are probably name change petitions for people proceeding without a lawyer. Or call a lawyer. A name change isn't that expensive.

If you just want to use a differnt name just do it. As long as its not for illeagal use. Here in the south many go by their middle name. Option 2 is ask a woman who got married and changed her name. Millions do it every year. LI think you just chane it at dmv and all papers you have. credit cards any stuff.
