I think its a great idea. It gives parents an informed view of what their kids like and gives them an experience to share. It lets the kids know that their parents care about something that they are into and it gives them a common ground for discussion.

I've never taken my kids to a rock concert, but my daughter (23) takes me to Warped Tour. This year we went to 2 separate shows. My twin teens go too with their friends, but I leave my youngest (12) at home - not because of the music or atmosphere, but because he wouldn't last the day and I don't want to listen to him whine and spoil it for everyone else. There are a lot of strange people there, but also a lot of families. I don't fit into either category, but I love the music and have a great time!

I think that young children shouldn't be exposed to rock especially the heavy kind. If older children (like adults) want to go to such a concert, that's their choice and the parents.

Pre-teens, teens, ok. I've taken mine to rock festivals and other concerts. Some I didn't want to go to, but they did.

Little ones (and I see a LOT of under 8) need to stay at home.
It's loud, they get hot, tired, cranky.

Get a babysitter for the younger one's and take your kids if they are interested.

Insane Clown Posse was a very odd experience, but nice to be with my son in his element

Personally I wouldn't take my 6 and 1 yr olds to a rock concert. There are to many dumb drunks and people exposing themselves at rock concerts. I have been to enough of them to know.

I think anything that a parent can do with their kids is awesome. Parents do not try to connect with kids as much anymore.

I still take both my teenage boys to heavy metal shows in the pit. It is so much fun to mosh with them. My oldest trys to knock me off my feet but he has not succedded yet.

I'm still a little mad at my mom for not taking me to an Eagles concert (with tickets -I- won!)

But I was 8, so I can't totally blame her....:)
