disconnect it. then its a safe wireless system. no matter what you do, someone will be able to get into your network if they really want it.

You weren't specific with the model number. You'll need to know the wireless gateway/modem's IP to access its setup page.

Go to Start, click Run and type cmd, click Okay. Then type ipconfig - you should get your IP address, subnet and default gateway. The default gateway is what you need, usually its 192.168.0.1 (for WCG200, I think).

To setup wireless security, open your browser and at the address bar type the default gateway's IP. By default leave the username blank, type admin for password - you should have the setup page now, unless you've changed the password when you first set it up.

Go to Wireless tab, and then look for Wireless Security sub-tab. You can enable the wireless security her, just remember to note down the settings since this will be needed by all wireless computers.

You can verify that the Firewall is also enabled by going to Security page, if you're concerned with the LAN/network security as well. Also make sure "Block WAN request" is checked or enabled. If you have an Security software, you can also enable this, just configure it to allow your IP (network/router modem) to get through.

It is true there is no 100% foolproof security, but that does not mean your network is vulnerable to all virus and "attacks". You still have some sort of protection. Just make sure any email or attachements come from reliable sources, and that you scan downloaded files.

If you are home, set a password to access. Also, set a password to reenter.

To protect your files by using a screen saver password
Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Screen Saver tab under Screen saver, click a screen saver.
Select the On resume, password protect check box.
If Fast User Switching is turned on, select the On resume, display Welcome screen check box.

Notes

To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
Selecting the On Resume, password protect check box will lock your computer when the screen saver is activated. When you begin working again you will be prompted to type your password to unlock it.
Your screen saver password is the same as your logon password. If you do not use a password to log on, you cannot set a screen saver password.
Fast User Switching is only available for stand-alone computers and users in a workgroup. It is not available if your computer is part of a network domain.

Refresh available networks. One or more should have the word "secure wireless" in it.

Go to your web browser and type in the IP address of the router. Or, you could try reading the intruction manual that came with the router.
