How do they lose something like that? It is not like the cable bill....

Okay Gotti, I have the tapes. I admit, I do. I did not take them I bought them. Well most of them anyway.

I have scotch tape, I have masking tape, and I even have duct tape. NASA can call me any time and will give any tape they want.

Really?

I wonder when will this nonsense about staged lunar landing is going to fizzle away. I agree that this conspiracy theory makes a good screenplay. The question is what is real life and what is Hollywood.

I am currently a double major of mathematics and astrophysics at a well known University, and I can say we have spent some time trying to put and answer to this question; a question that has been highly debated in the scientific community since the 70's. I find it convenient that NASA "lost" the lone evidence of one of the most important historic events in WORLD history. When the facts are broken down, the only logical explaination is that the moon landing was staged. Consider these facts.

1. In the videotape, the shadows of the ship, flag, and Buzz Aldrin are all facing the wrong direction. The way the sunlight reflects off the moon, the shadows should have been on the other side. The governments response? They landed on the dark side. The scientific community scoffs at this simple explaination for two reasons. One, there is NO LIGHT WHATSOEVER on the dark side, which would have made is nearly impossible to see anything in the video. Two, the dark side is thought to be colder then 0 degrees K, which is -273 degrees F. Those temperatures would most likely freeze any instrumentation.

2. The American flag, gloriously blowing in the wind seems to be the most obvious, glaring red flag. There is no lunar wind, which means the flag would not have been waving as it was, because there is no wind. Another question one might ask themselves is how come no one has ever seen this flag on the moon, with any degree of high powered telescope? Hmmmmm....

3. As the ship takes off from the surface of the moon, there is no displacement of dust, rock, or any other form of matter. One thing we do know about the moon is that the surface is covered with a loose dust like sediment, and certainly a space ship taking off or landing would have undoubtedly displaced some dust.

4. Why havent we, or anyone for that matter, been back? It does not seem to be the habit of human beings to go someplace once, stay for 5 minutes, and then leave never to return to further explore.

5. Last, but not least, how do they communicate with Houston from the moon via a wireless headset, when I still get no cell phone signal in my house? I find it baffling that cell phone technology came out nearly 30 years after something as advanced as a moon to earth wireless communication system. How would they have tested this technology to ensure it will work from the moon???

I think that the tape will turn up in a few months, most likely with some subtle changes that the government will deny were ever different. I think they realized that the staging was poorly planned and are simply correcting it right now. I wont say that we didnt land on the moon, because no one knows that except the people that were there, but I can say that there is absolutely no way that the moon landing video was filmed on the surface of the moon.

I don't really think NASA lost the tapes, they just don't want to go back to the past because of all the problems they had trying to go there. And we really weren't ready to go to the moon either. Hence all those explosions. Anyway, they have already gotten enough information about the moon to begin with, why bother so much now? They don't think the US is missing a lot of stuff about the moon. But they didn't lose the tapes.

They still have the tapes - they didn't lose them. Rather, they are trying to locate the initial tracking station transmissions to get better quality copies.

"The video, including footage of Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon, was transmitted from the moon to tracking stations in California and Australia. The images that were then sent to Houston and seen by the rest of the world were substantially degraded."

"I would simply like to clarify that the tapes are not lost as such, which implies they were badly handled, misplaced and are now gone forever. That is not the case," John Sarkissian, operations scientist at the Parkes Radio Observatory in Parkes, Australia, told the Space.com Web site."

If you were around, yet, and recall, the moon landing happened in the middle of the cold war. Russia was not our buddy that you love to hate and we were seriously contemplating nuclear attacks on them as they were on us. We came close a number of times. The reasons were not clear to me then and still escape me. It had something to do with testosterone, mostly, I think. They had this chubby little guy running the country who used to throw tantrums, take his shoe off, and bang it on the table in the middle of international meetings while threatening to bury you. You just wanted to beat the crap out of him.

The point is that the Russians had the technology to expose any hoax like this and would have loved to have done it at the time. They, no doubt tracked our movement to and from the moon and intercepted our radio communications and listened to them and knew that we had done what we did for sure. The chubby little guy threatened to blow us off the face of the earth if we somehow used the moon for military purposes and disavowed any ownership in the moon that we might claim.

Most of this started over the apparent flurling of the flag in the wind as it stood on the surface of the moon. The moon's gravity is very small and the atmosphere is near space. The movement in the flag was residual movement from having been planted there.

So, while its fun to feed our paranoia towards the government with things like this, we should really be more worried about the steady removal of our freedoms and the blatant disregard of the Constitution right now. What is more likely is that the government has caused this to resurface along with the Pluto question to keep us distracted while Bush completes his agenda.

The government PR machine knows and understands our paranoia and uses it. Bush will say that he needs to have the population distracted for a period of time and then a number of these things come out or resurface. Let's get them thinking about the moon and Pluto instead of the war in Iraq, or the imbedded chips in passports that we are now issuing, or the amnesty bill I am in the process of granting for people who have committed torture during my war on terror. If you think that they don't think this way, keep worrying about the moon because you're going to want to be somewhere else soon.

Conspiracy theories always run amok. People need something to believe in - for some, it's a need to believe others (particularly people in the government) are trying to deceive them.

emmettgolf (two above me) has it right. I saw a show about what he is saying and there was even more evidence against the moon landing actually happening. The theory is that it was all filmed in area 51 (is that the right #) in Nevada.

Yes, but who cares. NASA knows that they went to the moon. Even if they didn't loose that tape, there would still be some idiot denying it ever happened.

Some people have never believe we've never landed on the moon. This isn't a new rumor - now they have something to back their theories with

Do you remember the infamous Kid Rock/NASA sex tape scandal. Aldrin is still stuck with that nasty moniker. I am not surprised they "conveniently" lost this tape.
