If you have DSL you need a filter on each of the phones in the house including your DSL line. It's a thing that connects right into the wire. They sell them at Radio Shack, Best Buy or where ever you get your electronic stuff at. If you ask someone they'll know exactly what you are talking about.

Snap !!! I have the same problem with my land-line, and BT have checked it out too !!! I even bought a cordless phone to see if that would make any difference, and it didn't, your right, it is the computer, as it's ok when it's off, sorry i couldn't help, at least you know, your not the only one with that problem.

I'm assuming you have DSL.

Do you have filters plugged into your phones?
The phone line to the computer should also have a low-pass filter. Make sure all the wires are plugged into the proper places.

if you are using a dialup connection for your internet that is totally normal. what your hearing when you lift the handset is a tone for sending/recieving data for your connection.

have you got broadband? is it connected all the time? i had that problem and instead of using the spliter that they gave us i just used a normal one and th problem was solved
