"YOU GOTTA BE TRIPPING" What does that mean?
i watched fresh prince this afternoon and wil smith always says that line, Is that some kind of black man slang?

Yes, its "black man slang" (whatever the f*** that means)
It means something like..
You can't be serious or Are you for real?

I don't think it's specifically black. I think it probably comes from the expression to do with being under the influence of drugs....most notably LSD. In the 60's when LSD was used a lot, people were said to be 'tripping' or 'tripping out' when under the influence.
It sounds like a more extreme ....and humourous....way of saying 'You must be kidding'.

That is a sarcastic remark made to indicate that what comments you have made do not make logical sense. Indicating that maybe if you were tripping on some hallucinating drug you make think or say things like that.

as Shayna says.. 'tripping' means your on some kind of drug causing hallucinations. so 'you gotta be tripping' means 'you must be on drugs', in other words, the other person probably said something crazy.

It means something along the lines of "You've lost your mind." It was more an 80's thing, I think.

In other words, "You can't be serious", or "You're crazy". Not only black people use it as slang either.
