When addressing a group, imagine them as a living room of friends - keep in mind that they are there to listen to you, so just tell them what you're there to say.

I know this sounds weird, but go to a karaoke club and sing! Even if you have to have a few drinks to do it, go ahead. Then this will help you relax in front of a group when you are speaking. Hey, if you can sing in front of a bunch of strangers, you can talk in front of them too.

Now, officially, you should try to be composed. Just ACT like you are in charge and you are confident and everyone will think the same. If you act "wimpy", it will come across that way. You don't have to look at anyone in particular in the crowd (unless you set this up before hand, a good friend you can make eye-contact with now and then), just look directly over everyone's head. From their perspective, you are looking at them. Relax and smile now and then and practice your speach and your walk to the podium alone....or with a couple of friends in the audience. You'll do this once, and then you'll be an old pro! But I was serious about the karaoke thing! God Bless.

Read the material out loud over and over so you know it well before hand. While speaking find four differnt points that are not people and focus on them while looking up. Go back and forth from these points. Read the material and give heart to what you say. Most people are impressed simply by you being up there. But really practice is the key! Good luck

practice makes perfect! Seriously- write out what you want to say and then practice it- in front of a mirror, then in front of a parent/friend. When it comes time to speak in front of a group of people, breathe deeply and remember that most people feel nervous about public speaking. You'll do a great job!!!

Don't think about yourself and don't think about the nervousness. Instead, focus on the topic you are presenting. People pay much less attention to you than you imagine. Make educating your audience your goal, and you will achieve it.
