as far as i know those are all opiates. When someone takes opiate drugs for a long period of time, you become physically addicted. A change occurs in your body where you stop producing your bodies natural painkiller because it is getting it elsewhere (basically) Anyway, its a physical change that puts the body into withdrawl when it stops receiving the drug. Withdrawl is the period of time that your body takes to get back to producing everything naturally again. When you are in withdrawl or not taking the pills, you feel more than rundown. you are sick, in pain with bone aches cramps anxiety muscle spasms etc. The degree depends on the amount of drugs you are putting in SO.. when you are feeling like that and you take the painkiller that your body is craving so badly, you finally feel better, your body stabilizes and you have more energy than before. It isn't that the drug is giving her more energy, she just has none when she is physically in need of it. One pill a day shouldn't be too much of a slog for her to go through but still its enough to make her feel the difference without it.

My best friend is hooked on Percocet. Started out just for her Krohns disease but after she figured out that with a disease like that it was nonstop refills for her..... I hadn't seen her in about 10 years, unfortunately she needed somewhere to live and ended up staying with my husband, son, and I - well little to my surprise I would find her speeding around the house and cleaning everything in sight. Eventually kicked her out but I have the same questions as you - if I took percocet I would be sound asleep, why do they have to effect of an upper on someone whe is addicted????? I also wonder how easy it would be for someone to stay clean when this kind of "drug" is so readily available???

Addiction is a beast with sharp teeth. It's hard kicking any habit. If she's in detox, why is she taking any pills a day? Here, educate yourself. Knowlege is power. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addiction
