Understand my friend Tri, often times countries and social masses act like little children on a playground. And often times envy = hate.

With the United States and the more advanced western countries being so far ahead of the the third world, it is natural and expected to be despised.

And even between the developed countries the same phenomenon exists with the U.S. being the lone superpower nowadays. But here is the quandry, should the U.S. give it all up for that want of being liked, or admired in the world? I don't think that is going to happen.

This phenomenon, and the United States realization that it exists, and through the United States generosity as a people and a country, is part of the reason the United States' foreign aid spending is a large as it is. Those wanting to be critical of the U.S. often ignore the amount of money the U.S. just gives away every year. Often times it is more that the entire budget of most third world countries.

So, Tri, when someone wants to convince you of how evil the U.S. and it's citizens are, try to see more of the picture than what just what their words are painting for you.

I wouldn't be surprised if Americans ARE the most hated people on the planet. Some say it's because we have the best form of government and the highest standard of living of any country, so everyone else is jealous, but I think there's another reason -- Americans are generally an arrogant, belligerant bunch. The U.S. is the only country where people get pissed off when they travel abroad and people in other countries won't speak English to them. PLEASE!!! If you go to a foreign country, at least learn the basics of their language! I've also noticed that my brothers and sisters in uniform who have lived in or have been deployed to foreign countries have been generally treated as intruders, but the locals are only too happy to take their money...

I think that they are. Anti-Americanism has never been so prevalent. People see the foreign policy of America and blame it on the people. IT IS NOT ENVY but it is quite ignorant, Americans do bear some responsibility in electing Bush but they are by and large good people.

I've lived in America and loved but I will not return while that monkey runs the show.

By the way - Relative to GDP Americas foreign aid is actually the lowest of all the industrial nations. Why do Americans seem to think its the largest?

We are the most hated people on the planet. We are also the most admired people on the planet. This is what happens when you are the sole super-power. The Roman Empire was also the most hated and admired. If Trinidad and Tobago was the most powerful, they would likewise be the most hated/admired. Power brings the ability to affect lives in distant places, both positively and negatively.

I doubt that the Americans are the most hated. I would believe Israelis are due to their century old rivalry that is going on. The US is a new country compared to the others and well we haven't managed to obtain the kind of hatred that others have due to our carefree nature.

The average US citizen isn't out to do anything that really steps on the toes of nations around the world. Instead they're trying to become a millionaire or something simple.

Thats just my opinion.

Yes they are because of their foreign policy, because they are the most powerful country in the World and they have become total bullies, because they don't give a **** about International Law, the UN or the Geneva Convention, because they want to force their phony democracy, materialism and capitalism on the World, because most Americans are ignorant of the World outside of yankland and instead of admitting their total xenophobia and ignorance arrogantly carry on about how great they are, because they are brainwashed flag worshippers, because they complain about radical Islam yet harbour and encourage radical Christianity and Judaism, because they have no culture or history, because they have got everyone addicted to inferior hamburgers, coca cola, marlborough and crappy action films, because they are a bunch of badly educated drawling cow herding religious nuts who should all have drowned on the mayflower after they got their asses kicked out of England.

Seriously though, I think a lot of the animosity is directed at the US Gov ie. bush rather than the American people, Hollywood does a lot of good PR for them.

We, as a country, do not require only one language or one religion. We have a government, not that it is perfect to those living here, that does not mass murder groups of people for offending points of view. We are allowed to protest in the streets, vote, build up and tear down and not be a productive, responsible member of society if we so choose. We have options as a people and therefore other countries envy us and the leaders of those countries make us appear to be arrogant, ignorant and evil to keep their people from wanting the same freedoms or escaping.

I don't think Americans are the most hated people. But our government is the most hated right now. We are an imperialistic society and feel that our morals, our values, and our style of government should work in every culture.

I once heard this term which fits nicely: "Amerrogance"

If so it would be only because we are, by far, the most well-known people on the planet - individually through person-to-person contact and collectively through the dissemination of our culture.

This whole "they don't like us" thing is a political smokescreen perpetrated by the Weak Sisters to reduce the strength of our (presently) robust foreign policy.

I travel widely and encounter no personal hostility and only the occasional (and polite) effort by the people I meet to raise the subject of US foreign policy.

NO, NO, NO.

It is all envy. The most copied, the most emulated and the most "wannabe" people deep down in their hearts LOVE Americans. They just want to follow the herd of all these wannabees and say we hate Americans.

America has the most things that one would secretly want and admire. Because they are rich, good in everything they do, they are #1 in sports, business, science, discovery, manufacturing, consumerism ...... you name it. They are there.

Case in point: The very computer you are using now to type this messge was originally invented in America. Take it from there to just about everything.

So, bigger the target, the easier they are to get to.

No, they are not hated. They are secretly admired.
