I have a 6 year old daughter and did all the character themed parties for her. They can be really expensive. Especially with the matching napkins, tablecloth, plates and cups. I now have a 6 month old son also and am over those kinds of parties. This year for my daughter Im doing a carnival theme. With cotton candy, hot dogs, and maybe caramel apples. Multi-colored plates, cups, etc. are much cheaper and easier to find. For my son Im doing a safari theme. Its also cheaper to make the cakes and favors yourself. You can go to marsbrightideas.com and they have great ideas for parties. Good Luck

I think your wife's idea is good... but I'd also suggest something a little less effort-intensive, since the kids will be happy just being together and eating ice cream. Save the princess/frog theme for a couple of years from now. This year I'd go with just a few friends, toddler-safe foods, and nice appetizers for the adults.

What about a cowgirl/cowboy theme? Or if there are children of different ages, Peter Pan theme (there are so many characters to play). What about theming the party around a Royal Court (if your wife is into having your daughter be the birthday princess) you and your wife can be the King and Queen...

What about cowboys and cowgirls? The little ones look so cute in hats!! You could hand out little horses for favors so no one would get jealous of the other's, like the girls getting jealous of the boys' frogs.
